What are Dentures?

Dentures are tailored prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth. If you have missing teeth, wearing dentures makes eating and speaking easier as well as cosmetically give your face definition and a natural appearance while restoring your smile.

There are different types of dentures available – complete dentures or partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.

Denture Creation Process

After your initial appointment we determine what type of appliance is best for you. The general steps are to:

1. Take impressions of your mouth, discuss and choose colour and shape of teeth

2. Take measurements of how your jaws relate to one another and how much space is between them

3. Set the teeth and “try in” the wax form to determine the correct teeth length, the centreline and the “bite”, involving you in all aspects of the denture creation, so you are completely happy with the finished product

4. Possible “re-try” to accommodate any changes required

5. Process and finalise your denture

6. Adjust as necessary
